When the financial world rapidly went virtual due to coronavirus quarantine many advisors failed to notice the security loophole in using Video Conferencing. Firms who otherwise have secure systems in place for conducting confidential business began making use of virtual meeting spaces that were not as safe as thought to be. In this article, Brian Edelman describes the dangers of sharing private information across public platforms. Not only does virtual meetings possess the threat of drop-in participants but also platforms themselves retain recordings of meetings held. Brian’s advice: Never say anything on a virtual meeting that you wouldn’t want a stranger to overhear.
